The Housing Specialist will need to have extensive knowledge of Public Housing Authority and Housing subsidies (i.e., Section 8, Shelter Plus Care, HUD). Under the direction of the Director of Family & Community Services, the Specialist provides client advocacy, case management, benefit establishment, linkage to Mental Health/Substance Abuse services, linkage to stable housing and all other supportive services as needed. The Housing Specialist will provide individualized client support by helping each client develop a plan to address their barriers, increase their income, and maintain and sustain permanent housing. As part of the plan, the Housing Specialist will identify each area in which clients will need assistance to accomplish the outlined goals and objectives (i.e. scheduling appointments, applying for public benefits, identifying subsidized housing, etc.) Housing Specialist must provide constant outreach within the community to establish and maintain excellent relationships with community property managements, hotels/ motels, shelters, and other resources. The Specialist must also be able to assist the Victim Advocate(s) in determining client eligibility according to grant-specific regulations. The Housing Specialist is responsible for preparing housing applications with a strong focus on attention to detail and is accountable to the Director of Family & Community Services for the timely processing of any documentation submitted to the Housing Authority, Permanent Supportive Housing providers, or private landlords on behalf of their program-enrolled clients.

Under the supervision of the Director of Family & Community Services, provides administrative oversight of the Family Preservation Program under the Family Services Department. Responsible for ensuring contract compliance and quality assurance of programs. Assists with staff development. Works closely with Department Supervisors for overall improvement of the Family Services Department. Holds a part-time caseload for clients under the Family Preservation Program. Conducts comprehensive assessments, case plans, provides in-home outreach, supplemental, teaching and demonstrating services, parenting or other support groups for Family Preservation client families.
