Senior Services Testimonial: Eliza

When Eliza first began receiving services from our Multipurpose Senior Services Program (MSSP), she needed urgent assistance to continue living in her home. Suffering from multiple back problems, she began using a walker, and she had difficulties with everyday activities like cooking and showering. These challenges significantly lowered her quality of life, and Eliza lacked the support she needed to remain independent and avoid going to a nursing home.

Thankfully, our nurse Maria and the rest of our MSSP staff quickly got to work to help Eliza continue living at home. Since joining the program, Eliza has received a variety of critical items to support her wellbeing, including incontinence supplies, wipes, lotion, a safety mat, and even a new microwave. These items have been invaluable to Eliza, especially since she relies solely on her social security income. 

“Without your program, I don’t know where I would get help like this,” she says. “I don’t know of any other place that offers this kind of support.”

In addition to health and safety items, Eliza also benefits from one of our nurses who is on hand to support her. “My nurse Maria has been great, especially because she gets along with my cat and we always have interesting conversations,” Eliza says.

Maria acts as a constant support for Eliza, connecting her to local resources and remaining in communication to ensure she is safe and healthy at home. Eliza especially appreciates receiving in-person visits, as sometimes it’s difficult for her to communicate via phone due to her hearing aids.

“I feel like I have a lifeline, and I have someone I can turn to. It gives me peace of mind to know I can always talk to Maria and she will be friendly and helpful.”

Eliza’s message to other seniors in situations similar to hers is simple: see if you can qualify for the MSSP program. “If you need help with medical difficulties and need help to stay in your home, I can’t recommend this program enough,” she says.
