Senior Services Testimonial: Paola

Paola has been benefiting from the Multipurpose Senior Services Program (MSSP) for more than a decade now, though she initially received services through a different agency before transferring to HSA. Having seen the value the program brought to her life, she was always grateful to be part of it. And when she transferred to HSA’s MSSP program, she had the opportunity to experience firsthand how our organization goes above and beyond to care for our senior clients.

One of her most memorable experiences with HSA’s exceptional service came during the COVID pandemic. As someone who was particularly at risk from the virus due to her age, Paola was determined to follow stay-at-home orders to ensure her safety, though like many she suffered from isolation and anxiety. During this uncertain, anxious time, HSA was there for Paola to ensure her comfort and safety at home. “HSA provided me with so much moral support because the staff were consistently calling me to see how I was doing and ask if I needed anything. At the same time they kept giving me the same amazing help they gave me every month!”

As part of MSSP’s regular services, Paola received various items to help her remain comfortable at home, including fans, blankets, a heater, an even an iPad to help her keep her mind engaged. “You have given me help and resources that I would not have been able to find easily,” she says. “For me it has been amazing. You have given me assistance with so much courtesy”.

Post-pandemic, Paola unfortunately suffered from an accident that required her to get a cast on her leg and temporarily use a wheelchair. Once again, HSA was on hand to make sure her needs were met. Our MSSP program provided Paola with a grabber tool that became indispensable to her due to her limited mobility and reach. And most importantly, HSA coordinated transportation to take her to and from her doctor appointments, which improved her quality of life as she recovered. Regarding this key assistance, she says, “Without your services, I would have a really tough time. In the way that your staff cares for me, I can see that you are truly interested in my wellbeing and that of your senior clients.”
